Severe Weather Update – Wyre Forest District Council

Please note operational update for Friday 20 October 2023
Weather
- We have a Yellow warning for rain both today and Saturday – Low to Medium Impacts valid until 06:00hrs tomorrow
- 25-50mm across the region – 5-10mm rest of today with weather pattern moving eastwards and then wrapping back around
- Some overnight rain and into Saturday – Sunday / Monday much better position – some rain Tuesday then brighter
- Environment Agency
- Low level flood alerts for three main towns – moves to very low on Sunday
- River levels described as Normal Winter Flood Levels however Severn rising
- 8 current flood warnings on the Severn – 2 Bewdley / 3 Kidderminster / 3 Stourport
- Significant rain fall, which has created surface flooding – impacts to tributaries Bewdley / Stourport
- Situation will improve as rial fall eases
- Operational barriers at Severn Side North were being deployed however this has been terminated following plant equipment failures
- This deployment has now been cancelled and levels are expected to come close to properties
- Situation will be monitored
- Decision regarding Severn Side South deployment will be made over the weekend
- Beales Coner will not be deployed – Joint agency working group currently reviewing this
- Severn at Bewdley will peak today – second peak over weekend
- Peak gauge summary sheets will be issued by the EA later today
- Highways
- 20 road closures across County network
- Significant surface water flooding
- B4194 Switchback issues
- WMLRF
- At this stage, No formal TCG required
- Proceed with situational awareness
- Properties – NWWMT
- 15 residential properties with external flooding across North Worcestershire Water Management Area
- 10 businesses with internal flooding in WFDC area – single location of overland run off from golf course – Long-bank Bewdley
- 2 internal properties flooded Stourport
- NWWM team are continuing to get calls in and responding – close liaison work across WFDC teams
- Depot Operational Services
- Sandbags already deployed in preparation at normal key locations – Bewdley / Stourport / Kidderminster
- Team responding to flash flooding with sandbags across the district – large number of locations
- Team also looking at leaf-fall clearance
- Residual waste collections today in Stourport and this could be affected
- Flood recovery work next week
