Storm Franklin Flooding Event Update: Thursday 24th February 2022
Overall Sitrep
- Severn at Bewdley peaked at 5.34m Wednesday 23rd February – Note 2020 event peaked at 5.48m
- Situation much improved and river now in recession – Predicted 4.8m early afternoon
- Flood warnings still in place as is the EA’s Severe Flood Warning – Note this SFW should be removed later early afternoon
- This should then be reflected in a downgrade of the Major Incident declaration
- Pumps will be redeployed to remove waste behind barriers
- Pending review of water levels, work on removing Beales Corner should start Friday 25th February – over weekend
- Likewise, then barriers at Severnside North / Severnside South should start to come down from Monday 28th February
- Multi-agency deployment teams at Bewdley with blue light / Wyre Forest staff / WCC staff/ EA teams
- Weather ahead much improved and no further concerns on the horizon
Flood Impacts
- Bewdley bridge / Pedestrian access closed / Shuttle bus in operation (check WCC website)
- Note flooding impacts along river at Bewdley & Stourport
- Wide ranging issues including residential, business, local caravan parks
- Lots of warning & informing ongoing
Flood Recovery
- Team now turning attention to recovery starting at Beales Corner – We’ll have cleansing teams on site and over weekend
- Inspections will commence with all open space / amenity areas that have been underwater – cleaning work programmed in
- WF teams liaising with WCC teams to prioritise clean up – joint strategic plans also progressing
