Leader welcomes Tier 2 announcement but urges further caution

The Leader of Wyre Forest District Council has welcomed news that the district and the whole of Worcestershire will remain in Tier 2 following a review by the Government.

Following today’s announcement Councillor Graham Ballinger said: “I appreciate some will be disappointed we haven’t been dropped down into Tier 1 but, with the number of positive Covid-19 cases continuing to increase over the last week, that was always going to be unlikely.

“While we stay in Tier 2, we all need to carry on following the rules of hands, space and face, which are more important than ever in the fight to stop the spread of the virus.

“I would urge everyone to be extremely cautious over the Christmas period, shop locally if you can and avoid travelling to areas with higher infection rates such as Birmingham and the Black Country if at all possible.

“We all know Christmas and New Year is going to look very different in 2020 but I would urge everyone to do what they can to keep safe and well, so we can go in to 2021 with the hope of a much brighter year ahead.”
