Visit Severn Valley – new website

If you are looking for something to do this Easter you don’t have to go far! We have launched a new website which showcases the charm and beauty of the Severn Valley region. It is dedicated to promoting the wonders of the Severn Valley region and inspiring visitors and locals alike. The website spotlights the rich culture, breathtaking River Severn and top attractions that make this area a must-visit destination. Funding for the website was thanks to a grant from the UK Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund. You can also follow Visit Severn Valley on Facebook and Instagram.

Could you be a volunteer?

As well as having a positive impact on your community, volunteering is good for you. It can bring meaning and purpose to your life, increase self-esteem and wellbeing. We are working with UNITY (the employment services team at Community Housing) to put on a Volunteer Fair. On Thursday 9 May you can go along to Kidderminster Library and meet a wide range of organisations which are looking for volunteers. Opportunities range from befriending, to supporting the Burlish Bike Park coffee shop, conservation work and driving. There are options for all! Pop along to talk to representatives from the organisations between 1pm and 4pm.

Free parking for an hour

You can now park for free for an hour at Batemans Yard, Kidderminster and Vale Road, Stourport car parks. The offer is available Mondays to Fridays between 8am and 6pm, you just need a ticket from the machine (you can’t use the MiPermit app for your free hour). You can take advantage of the offer once a day. This new scheme (launched today – Monday 1 April) is in addition to the one hour free parking at Gardners Meadow in Bewdley which was introduced last November. If you park for longer than an hour you will need to buy a ticket or use the MiPermit app after the free hour has expired.

Great British Spring Clean

Many thanks to everyone who took part in the Great British Spring Clean and helped us in our work to make the district clean, safe and green. There was a great turn out for our Rangers’ litter picks on the nature reserves and lots of support for the events organised by the Pick Up Artist and the Little Litter Warriors. We also had more people adopting a street – this is our scheme to help people who care about their community and take pride in where they live to get involved in litter picking.

Air quality survey

What do you think about the air quality in our district? Have your say in a new survey from Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS) . Completing the questionnaire will help WRS understand how they can all make air quality in Wyre Forest better for everyone. The survey is completely anonymous and is open until 11pm on Sunday 12 May.

Energy saving pool cover

We have successfully applied for a £25,000 grant from Sport England’s Swimming Pool Fund. The money is being used to by a new cover for the pool at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre. This will significantly reduce heating costs, reduce cleaning time and help conserve water.

Sustfest launch event

SustFest Wyre Forest is back at the end of the month, celebrating all things “greener, happier and healthier”. The two week-long event showcases organisations and businesses that support sustainability. It is launching on Saturday 27 April with a free family fun day at Stourport Riverside Park, from 11am. Sustfest runs until Sunday 12 May.
